Lindsey Wilson hosts MSC Tournament opening round on Thursday at Egenw Park
BECKLEY, W.Va. -- One day after dropping a pair of games to host West Virginia University Tech, the Lindsey Wilson College baseball pounded the Golden Bears 16-2 on Saturday in what turned out to be the regular season finale.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to rain ending the Blue Raiders' regular season with a 38-12 record and one game shy of the program's all-time wins record.
Six Blue Raiders recorded multiple hits in the game led by Leandro Perez's game-high four hits. In fact, Perez was just two hits shy of the Golden Bears' team total of six.
Lindsey Wilson finished the seven-inning game out-hitting the host 20-6.
Lindsey Wilson opened the game with a four-run first inning and added two more in the second to take an early 6-0 lead.
After the Golden Bears scored a pair of runs off Jeremy Greene in the third inning, the Blue Raiders answered with a seven-run fourth inning to blow open the game.
Tyler Bernard, Manuel Ozoria and Jeff Murphy each had three hits while Jeff Kerian went 2-for-5 with five RBIs.
Greene improved to 4-2 on the season with the complete-game win. He allowed the two runs on six hits while striking out five.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, April 26, as the Blue Raiders host the Mid-South Conference Tournament's opening round at Egnew Park. The top-seeded Blue Raiders will learn their opponent following Wednesday's play-in game.
