Blue Raiders make quick work of Bulldogs without dropping a set
COLUMBIA, Ky. -- It was a quick win for the 12th ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team as it didn't drop a set in a 9-0 win against visiting Cumberland (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders took control of the match from the start, winning all three doubles points easily.
Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic opened with an 8-1 win at the No. 1 seed against Courtney Schaub and Anita Racz. Second-seeded Diana Gerlakh and Laura Vergara won 8-2 against Alena Gizdic and Tais Lacerda Bezerra.
Anna Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo wrapped up doubles with an 8-2 decision at No. 3 against Abby Wilson and Lindsey Gaither.
Needing just two wins in singles play to wrap up the match, the top-seeded Slapeka struck first, beating Schaub 6-0, 6-1. Milanovic clinched the win at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Racz.
Gerlakh had the longest singles match of the day at the second seed, needing a 7-6 (4), 6-3 score to top Gizdic.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday against Bethel (Tenn.).
