Derek Cape hurled a no hitter in today's second game to help baseball sweep Davenport University on Sunday.

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Derek Cape was nearly perfect, pitching a no hitter with just one walk and six strikeouts to lead the Lindsey Wilson College baseball team to a 5-0 win against Davenport (Mich.) University on Sunday at Lindsey Wilson Park. The Blue Raiders won the first game of the doubleheader as well 6-5.

Second baseman Heath Barnes went 3-for-4 in game one scoring a run, while shortstop Drew Barrett went 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBI. Third baseman Max Rhodes led the Blue Raiders in game two, batting 3-for-4 for a double and an RBI. Barrett also stayed hot in game two, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Both Cape and Rhodes, the game-one pitcher, threw complete seven inning games. Rhodes allowed four earned runs, but gave up just six hits with three strikeouts. The damage was done to Rhodes in the first three innings as he shutout the Panthers over the last four.

Davenport (7-9) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one, then added three more runs in the third. Trailing 5-1, Lindsey Wilson (7-4) needed a huge inning and got it in the bottom of the third with four runs to even the score.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh inning when Panther pitcher Cody Vankoevering gave up a walk with the bases loaded to end the game.

Game two was all about Cape's performance as a run in the first inning was all the Blue Raiders needed for the win with the ace on the mound. Lindsey Wilson added four insurance runs in the sixth inning to make it an easy seventh for Cape.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson has won five straight games, all at home. The Blue Raiders return to action at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, March 12 against the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) at Lindsey Wilson Park.
