COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The first-year Lindsey Wilson College swimming team wasted no time bursting onto the national scene as four Blue Raiders have qualified to compete in the NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships March 3-6 in St. Peters, Mo., at the St. Peters Rec-Plex.
Freshmen Jordan Green, Ivan Ivancic, Daniel Lyle and Daniel Pulliam each qualified for nationals by posting either an A- or B- national standard time at meets during the regular season.
Qualifying for nationals was taken care of after the first meet of the season at the Asbury (Ky.) College Invitational on Oct. 10, 2009. Four individual swimmers and two relay teams posted national qualifying times at the George E. Luce Physical Activities Center.
Ivancic made history in the 200-free with the first win by a Lindsey Wilson swimmer. Ivancic paced the field, finishing in one minute and 51.54 seconds meeting the national B-Standard. Ivancic cleared his final national-standard time of the day in the 100-back, clocking in at 1:51.54 for a B-standard finish.
Lyle, a freestyle specialist, met two B-standard times in the 50-free (22.97) and 100-free (50.88).
Most recently, the four freshmen combined to post a national A-standard time in the 400-meter freestyle relay at a time trial event at Campbellsville (Ky.) University on Feb. 19. Lyle also posted an A-standard in the 50-free with a time of 24.82 seconds.
At Union (Ky.) College on Nov. 16, 2009, the Blue Raiders collected their first A-standard time as Lyle took first place in the 400-Individual Medley with a time of four minutes and 37.49 seconds. Ivancic recorded a B-standard time at the same meet, winning the 100-free in 50.41 seconds, over three seconds faster than the nearest competitor.
