COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Iowa Wesleyan College's Nelcicio York's game-winning single in the top of the 10th inning propelled the Tigers to a 2-1 win over the host Lindsey Wilson College baseball team today at Lindsey Wilson Park.
With the win, Iowa Wesleyan (3-2) takes two out of three from the Blue Raiders (2-4) over the weekend.
Iowa Wesleyan jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Edder Morales blasted a home run over the centerfield fence off Lindsey Wilson senior starter Max Rhodes.
The home run was the only mistake of the day for Rhodes, who allowed one run while scattering five hits in seven innings of work. Rhodes struck out four Iowa Wesleyan batters.
The Blue Raiders tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on sophomore Jeff Murphy's one-out single. Murphy finished the day 2-for-4 from the plate with a RBI.
Sophomore Drew Barrett opened the bottom half of the fourth inning reaching base when Iowa Wesleyan starter Brian Graves hit him. Following a sacrifice bunt by Rhodes to move Barrett into scoring position, Murphy singled to left center to tie the game.
Graves finished the game allowing just the one run on seven hits in nine innings of work to pick up the win. He struck out three Blue Raiders while not conceiting a walk on the afternoon.
Iowa Wesleyan's Josh Sturges opened the 10th inning with a double and later scored on York's single to give the visitors the win.
Lindsey Wilson senior Cody Wales suffered the loss in relief allowing the one run on four hits in three innings of work.
Iowa Wesleyan's Edgar Hernandez secured the win with a three-out save in the bottom of the 10th.
Lindsey Wilson senior Zach Prichard and junior Heath Barnes joined Murphy with two hits each on the afternoon.
The Blue Raiders return to action at 3 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 3, as they host Union (Ky.) College at Lindsey Wilson Park.
