BURKESVILLE, Ky. -- Junior Joe Hood shot a two-over par 74 (38-36) to lead the Lindsey Wilson College men's golf team to third place after the first round of the Lindsey Wilson College Fall Invitational at the Dale Hollow State Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Blue Raiders combined for a team score of 303, just three strokes behind co-leaders Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University and University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
Hood's team-best score of 74 puts him in a three-way tie for fifth place individually, while Trevecca's Joey Bradley leads the event after shooting a 70 (36-34) in the first round.
Hood reached the top of the leader board by leading the field in pars with 14. Lindsey Wilson also led the field in pars as a team with 52. Hood was one of only two golfers to play even golf on the par-four holes.
Sophomore Nicolas Navarro carded a 75 (36-39) to start the invitational in a tie for eighth place. Blue Raider sophomore Dustin Shearer, while his score did not count playing as an individual, tied Navarro with a 75 (38-37) as well.
Freshman Antonio Arriola struggled on the front nine holes, but improved enough down the stretch to jump into a tie for 11th place with a score of 76 (42-34). Two individual players from Lindsey Wilson, sophomore Derek Murphy (38-38) and senior Zach Charbonneau (39-37), also tallied a 76.
Senior Travis Radford rounded out the group of Blue Raider golfers in the lineup with a 78 (38-40) to finish in a tie for 20th place. Three individual Blue Raiders, sophomores Chris Lewis (37-41) and Levi Gordon (40-38) and newcomer Ryne Burnett (36-42), joined Radford with 78 strokes.
Marian (Ind.) University finished the round in fourth place with a score of 307, followed by Cumberland (Tenn.) University in fifth with a 310 and Georgetown (Ky.) College coming in sixth with 316 strokes.
St. Catharine (Ky.) College (317) and West Virginia Tech (336) round out the standings in seventh and eighth place, respectively.
Men's golf is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with the final round of the Lindsey Wilson College Fall Invitational.
