COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson College finished the 2008-09 season in 10th place in the NAIA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings, released on Wednesday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
The Lindsey Wilson athletics teams finished with 584.70 points to earn the program's fourth Top-10 finish in the last five seasons. During the five-year span, Lindsey Wilson has finished a program-best third (2005-06), sixth twice (2006-07 and 2004-05) and 25th (2007-08).
Points are awarded by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in 12 sports -- six men's and six women's -- based on postseason finishes within the NAIA National Championships.
The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer and women's tennis teams earned the most points (83) for their third place finishes. Women's basketball (53 points), women's golf (66), men's soccer (53) and men's tennis (53) also completed Top-10 finishes.
Lindsey Wilson finished the fall season with 136 points following the women's soccer team's final four appearance and the men's soccer tie for ninth. The Blue Raiders entered the winter season tied for 15th.
During the winter, four teams scored points led by the women's basketball team's tie for ninth. The women's indoor track & field team earned 57.2 points for its tie for 16th place, the men's indoor track & field team picked up 56 points for their 18th place finish and the men's basketball team earned 25 points for their tie for 17th.
Lindsey Wilson concluded the winter in 14th place with 327.20 points.
Five teams earned a total of 257.50 points during the spring season to lift the Blue Raiders into the Top-10.
Women's tennis led the way with their fourth straight final four appearance and women's golf and men's tennis added an eighth and ninth place finish respectively. The women's outdoor track & field team added 42 points for their 32nd place finish and the men's outdoor track & field team contributed 13.5 points after finishing 58th at its national championships.
Azusa Pacific (Calif.) University captured its fifth straight Cup with 915 points.
Lindsey Wilson finished ahead of four other Mid-South Conference institutions in the standings. University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) finished 31st with 410.50 points, Campbellsville (Ky.) University finished 71st with 172 points, Georgetown (Ky.) College ended in 96th place with 123 points and West Virginia Tech finished 192nd with 12 points.
In the final standings, 192 of the 287 NAIA institutions scored in the season-long competition.
